Copper plate made with forgings| Event report
2023.11.15
Hello everyone. MUJI Hiroshima Parco.
Do you know any of the golds?
Forging is a technique of making three-dimensional objects by hitting a metal plate with a hammer.
The other day, we held a workshop to experience this traditional technique.
The lecturer is Jun Yatake of Imori.
Launched a gold studio "Imori" in Kurisu, Hatsukaichi City, and has been producing and working mainly on copper living crafts.
Forgings have been made in various parts of Japan since the Edo period, mainly in daily life crafts such as medicine cans.
With modernization, the number of forgings that cannot be mass-produced has decreased, and it has become endangered species.
Mr. Yatake is working with the hope that such forging can be spread to the world as much as possible.
Everyone's first training experience.
First of all, Mr. Yatake taught me how to use the hammer and showed me an example.
The beautiful pattern is projected when you look at it, and everyone is curious as "Wow, amazing" even if you look at it.
The hammer has various patterns in this way, and it is a mechanism that marks the copper by hitting it.
First of all, practice while trying how to use and power with scrap materials.
If you practice well, it will be real.
In addition to the hammer with a pattern, there is also a stamp with a thin stick called "agane".
A fun sound resonates with Kankan in the store.
Finally, put it in a wooden frame and bend it in the shape of a plate.
Here's the finished plate.
It is only one copper plate in the world that contains the characters and patterns you want.
All of them are nice and cool.
The color of copper changes as it is used, giving it an antique-like texture.
After experiencing the fun of making, it is also fun to grow it.
I would be glad if you loved it for a long time.
At Mr. Yatake's forging workshop, in addition to dishes, there is a workshop to make various things with forging, such as spoons, cups, and frying pans.
After this workshop, it seems that some of the participants who visited Imori's workshop immediately.
If you are interested, please check it out.
