Himmeli, an angel made of straw | Event report

2023.11.29
Hello everyone. MUJI Hiroshima Parco.

It's been less than a month until Christmas.
The other day, we held a fun workshop that is perfect for the coming season.

Lecturer is Miyuki Shimizu of Himmeli Lanka.
We make Finnish traditional decorative Himmeli.
Lanca means “thread” in Finnish language.

This time I made an angel of straw. It is a straw angel of sodas, a traditional decorative of Lithuanian.

The thin part of straw is used.
If it was dry, it would break, so it was soaked in water and softened.
We make rings of angels, bodies, and feathers and connect them.

Cut the feathers with scissors, and combine them with a hinmel and a straw star to complete it.

It's very nice.
Everyone was very satisfied with the finished product, saying, "I can make such a wonderful thing by myself."

Himmeri is Finnish, straw star is a traditional German decoration.
All of them are straw, but they are made using different thickness parts.
Mr. Shimizu talked about various stories about traditional Nordic decorations and straw angels, and it was a very interesting and fun time.

Lovely ornaments that will bring happiness.
Please decorate your room and enjoy it.
Thank you to everyone who participated, Mr. Himmeli Lanka.

MUJI Hiroshima Parco holds events to interact with local residents.
From now on, fun events will be decided one after another.
Please come and experience the charm of Hiroshima.
